Paper Targets We’ve got paper targets! To be more specific, these are the same targets (cardboard, not paper) that you’ve shot forever – exactly the right size, brown on one side, white on the other side, with the A, B, C, and D scoring perforations at exactly the right locations. Current pricing is $41.00 per 100 ($.41 each), and at that price, we can only sell in lots of 100. Brown tape is $1.75 per roll, Black or White tape is $2.00 per roll. (This is tape, not pasters on a roll.)

MGM was issued USPSA Target Manufacturer’s License No. MGM-250 late in ’04. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the target rules and regulations, all target manufacturer wannabees have submitted an application and first article samples to the USPSA. After the USPSA inspection and approval of the submitted targets, the newly approved licensee is assigned a license number. Receipt of this license number by the manufacturer signifies that they have agreed to pay the USPSA a fee of $.03 per target at the time the targets are manufactured. This small fee allows the USPSA to continue oversight of all targets manufactured, ensuring that the quality and dimensional integrity of targets are consistent throughout the United States.

The decision to enter this segment of the target business was not made without considerable thought. The equipment necessary to manufacture this product costs a chunk of change up front, and the 3 cents per target at the time of manufacture (on 50,000 targets) has another $1,500 tied up. Additionally, MGM has opted to donate another 3 cents for every target sold, to the USPSA Junior program. Mrs. MGM (i.e. Rhonda) will be working with the Junior Program Coordinator to administer the distribution of these funds, to hopefully maximize the positive effect for the greatest number of Juniors.

If you do your homework, I trust you’ll find these prices to be exceptionally competitive. At this point (with volumes at the current levels), when I say “we don’t make a cent” on each target, I am not using that as a figure of speech. So why do it?
We will have people in our shipping department with or without the paper target business. Hopefully their added workload will cost MGM very little.

  • The junior program can use the money.
  • Any club buying paper targets can save some money, and we fully expect prices nationwide to DROP, at least to the $.41 level.
  • Any club who buys paper targets might also someday need steel targets. We hope they’ll think of MGM first.

    We do make a little on the tape, and if the volumes go up, we’ll start to make a little on the targets. Our hope is to lower the price in the future, rather than raise it, but if you know us, that shouldn’t be much of a surprise!

    P.S. Any scores submitted or matches conducted with the use of non-USPSA approved targets will not be considered or accepted by the USPSA. In 2004 the NRA threw out the scores for a MAJOR match in Texas, because it was conducted with “counterfeit” targets, manufactured by a non-NRA approved source. The USPSA has a similar policy .

    The MGM target Stands are constructed of steel angle with tubing to accommodate 1" X 2" target sticks. The legs of the stands are drilled for those windy days when it becomes necessary to anchor the target stand to the ground. We currently make 2 versions of our target stand, the conventional upright stand (90 degree) and an angled variation (45 degree). The angled stand is used by some clubs to place a target around a corner in a "surprise" situation.

    Joe Thompson twisted my arm until we built some of these, and by now I think it is one of the best ideas I've seen in years! The JT Target Stand (guess how we came up with the name) is the most inexpensive, wind proof, and versatile target stand on the market today, bar none. If I had any ego attached to our regular target stands, I wouldn't even offer these - they are that good. If you are shooting in a rock quarry, or on a concrete slab, you don't want these. Anyplace else in the country, you'll pat yourself on the back every time you use them. Besides the price, there are a multitude of great features. First, I'll guarantee that your targets will rip off the sticks before they tip over. If you are out shooting and these blow over, it's too late to head for the storm cellar with Toto and Auntie Em. Second, they will fit ANY size target or cardboard that you can find. Third, they are simple to set up. Fourth, you can haul a bunch of them in a 5 gallon bucket. Fifth, they are at LEAST $5 per set cheaper than anything out there.

    Set Up:
    1) Staple your target or cardboard on to the 1 x 2 sticks. Try to get the sticks relatively parallel.
    2) Next, throw the target down on the ground as shown. Drive the stakes into the dirt 6-8 inches, at the same width as the sticks.
    3) Lastly, slide the sticks down into the tubes, and on to the angled round bar. (Pictured above)
