POPPER SUMMARY
The Base Assembly
The main problem with poppers is that when they fall, they beat themselves into the ground. The front and rear of our bases are the equivalent of a 2 x 4, 16" long. They settle into the ground 3/4", and that is all. There are holes for 4 anchor spikes. No more fooling with calibration during a match. The part of the base that holds the front to the back doesn't need to weigh 50 lbs. All it does is hold the front to the back, so we use material that weighs about 5 lbs. (on the pepper poppers, less on the U.S. poppers). This gets the job done without being difficult to move.
The Hinge Assembly
We use 1" diameter solid steel for a heavy-duty hinge. It is held in place with a spring clip, so the target can be removed from the base without any tools.
The Target Assembly
We bolt the target to the hinge assembly with Grade 8 bolts, which are the hardest, strongest structural bolts you can buy. We use all steel lock nuts of the same caliber. Not nylon self locking nuts, not lock washers, not double nuts. You may occasionally have a nut come loose, but it will be under relatively severe use conditions. Because we bolt the target onto the hinge assembly, you never have to re-weld the target to the hinge. When you talk with our competition, please be sure to ask them to guarantee the welds on the target plate forever. This isn’t going to happen because THEY know they are going to break!
The Adjustment Bolt
This baby is located under the hinge assembly, so there is no way you can ever damage it with bullet splatter. The threads will work forever. You can also adjust (calibrate) the target while it is in the vertical position - you don't have to lay it down to get to the adjustment bolt. From the shooter's perspective, the only part of this target you can see is the target - everything else is behind the target, so it is impossible to damage anything that will affect operation or life of the target and base.
The Bumper
We have the only real rubber bumper in the business (that we know of). Not a spare tire, not part of a spare tire, not a railroad tie, not a sand bag. These are manufactured specifically for our poppers out of 3/4" thick extruded rubber, and held in place with a 1/2" bolt. Heavy duty, light weight, effective.
POPPER TYPES
|
Pepper Popper
Quite simply the best popper on the market. This is a staple for action shooting both handgun and 3-gun at 42" tall. You will hear us say this often, we invite you to compare ours ...with theirs.
|
US Popper
This target is 28” inches and is a smaller version of its well known counterpart the Pepper Popper. Lightweight and easy to move, this target is a necessity for every range.
|
Colt Speed Plate
The Colt Speed Plate is a shape that originally appeared in the NRA Bianchi Cup competition. The original is 28” tall. We manufacture both the 28” and a 32” Colt Speed Plate.

Cross Over Stop Poppers
If you’re gonna have a Man on Man shoot-off, you gotta have a Cross Over Stop Popper to be sure who the real winner was.
Made of the same 500 Brinell Steel as our other targets, the Cross Over Stop Popper has two half size (21”) pepper poppers mounted side by side on a single base. Designed specifically for the man on man shoot-off situation, they are set at a slight angle, so they face the shooters squarely, they both fall on the same bumper, and they overlap when they fall. The winner is the guy (or gal) whose target is on the bottom.
No more whining, and the person shooting the wimp loads may get there first, and still get beat if the other person is shooting more powerful loads. I’ve seen it happen more than once! A 1" wide nylon strap reset is standard, and 8" octagon targets (also 21" tall ) are a "same price" option.
|
Split Poppers
Made from the same 500 Brinell hardness steel, the Split Pepper Popper is designed to improve accuracy, and bring one more fun target to your training. It is the same size (42” tall) as the standard Pepper Poppers.
Traditionally, the problem with split poppers is, the hinge is so sloppy the halves either overlap at the top, or there is an inch gap at the top. MGM has solved that problem by using a close tolerance machined bushing and a 1" stainless steel pivot shaft. That feature, coupled with a small amount of adjustment tolerance in the bolt holes allows you to have the target set up perfectly, with the space between the halves exactly the same at the top as it is at the bottom.
In addition to using the target as a split popper, the connector plate at the bottom will allow you to fasten the halves together, so it will act like a conventional pepper popper.
|
Cowboy Popper
Made of the same 500 Brinell Hardness Steel, but designed for the Cowboy Shooters in mind. It can also be fited with a Pigeon Flipper, that will throw a clay bird (or pop can, or rock, or charcoal briquet) into the air, for a challenging shotgun target! (There is a picture of the Pigeon Flipper and a description at the bottom of this page.)
|
Falling Forward Popper
Like all of our targets, innovation comes first. For those of you looking for a way to reduce the number of bullets that may fly out of the bay, our Forward Falling Popper has an ingenious bracket that makes the target fall towards the shooter. Our forward falling bracket works like a charm and is easily adjustable.
|
Paper Target Pop-up Bracket
This is a great concept and we think we have the best on the market.
Once the popper is activated, the paper target follows it all the way over ... in about 2 seconds.
Also available with a forward falling bracket.

Propper Popper
The Pepper Popper has been getting the job done for years, but there is always room for improvement, right? The PROPER popper might be that improvement.
I'm going to accuse John Hearne of coming up with this idea, or at least with pursuing it to the point that it got built. It was just MGM's good fortune that he chose to work with us. John's site has comments regarding design and performance criteria that you might find of interest. Link to John's comments

I think the pictures tell it all. There is a rectangular tube across the back that will accept a standard 1" x 2" stick. Slide the stick through and snug the clamp bolt in place and you are good to go. The narrow base of the popper (below the target area) has a piece of 3/8" thick flatbar on the back of it to provide additional rigidity. As with all our poppers, accessories like the the Paper Target Pop Up Bracket, the Forward Fall Bracket, and the Pigeon Flippers will all work with this target. All of these accessories can be found in the Popper section under Products.
Available in 8" or 12" diameters, both with 6" wide "heads", please specify codes PRPC8 or PRPC12.

Pigeon Flipper
This has proven to be an extremely popular addition to our full sized poppers. Allowing the shooter to shoot both stationary and aerial targets. The pigeon flipper can be attached to any Pepper Popper, US Popper, Cowboy Popper, or Colt Speed Plate Popper.
|
Forward Falling Bracket
This bracket can be added to any of our poppers to allow the target to fall toward the shooter, deflecting the bullet fragments to the ground instead of allowing them to be deflected upward and out of the range.
